Post quarantine restrictions affecting Sigma Nu the most
IFC, saying those three letters is the quickest way to strike fear into any greek organization. However one organization doesn’t shy away from IFC even though they face the most scrutiny from them, and that’s Sigma Nu. They have enforced their restrictions on my fraternity heavier than any other fraternity.
Sigma Nu has been the target of IFC since the beginning of time, way before my years at Bradley. A quote from senior CJ Johnston “It is actual nonsense, they sit and watch just waiting for us to slip up like every other frat doesn’t make mistakes.” They have not missed a chance to scrutinize the fraternity every opportunity they get. The house has gotten harsher punishments for small incidents than other greek life houses have for incidents that end up blowing way out of the water. This is because unfortunately IFC wants Sigma Nu off campus, and these COVID post quarantine restrictions have given them the perfect opportunity to do so.
Since the recent 2-week quarantine has ended our fraternity has done nothing but follow guidelines to the tee. However that has not stopped us from constantly being on IFC’s radar, and them sending their attack dogs after us. A quote from Commander of Sigma Nu, Brian Leonard “All these frats have constantly been caught disobeying the strict guidelines in place, but yet we seem to still be public enemy number 1.” This is indeed true, several other houses have been caught partying and nothing was done about it yet off mere rumor our house has been put on probation before.
I interviewed Junior Corey Novander just to get another class’s perspective on the situation. He had just been Lieutenant Commander the previous year, so he saw first hand what Sigma Nu experienced. As Lieutenant Commander he worked for a first hand with Brian and helped out with the sticky situation, “It was a trainwreck, it was completely false allegations but we didn’t even get the benefit of the doubt they were deadset on getting us off-campus. The ruthlessness of IFC on Sigma Nu clearly knew no bounds.
Enough with the past, however, just these past few weeks the restrictions put in place seem to only have been put in action when it was a Sigma Nu involved. Many members explained that their social media posts are being monitored, by people just hoping to get them punished. What happened to Free speech, a person should be able to post whatever they want on their platforms. Sigma Nu made it clear the house want IFC to go away and they aren’t saying they should lighten up on restrictions, they just want all of greek life to be held to the same standard.
In conclusion, Sigma Nu plans on still following guidelines and policy of course. They would just appreciate it if the house they all love was not used to make an example out of. Greek life should be a great experience overall.
